THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHASHIVRATRI

                      THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHASHIVRATRI

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHASHIVRATRI

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MAHASHIVRATRI

The fourteenth day of every lunar month or the day before the new moon is known as Shivratri. Among all the twelve Shivratris that occur in a calendar year, Mahashivratri, the one that occurs in February-March is of the most spiritual significance. On this night, the northern hemisphere of the planet is positioned in such a way that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human being. This is a day when nature is pushing one towards one’s spiritual peak. It is to make use of this, that in this tradition, we establish a certain festival which is night-long. One of the fundamentals of this night-long festival is to ensure that – to allow this natural upsurge of energies to find their way – you remain with your spine vertical – you stay awake.

Mahashivratri is very significant for people who are on the spiritual path. It is also very significant for people who are in family situations, and also for the ambitious in the world. People who live in family situations observe Mahashivratri as Shiva’s wedding anniversary. Those with worldly ambitions see that day as the day Shiva conquered all his enemies.

But, for the ascetics, it is the day he became one with Mount Kailash. He became like a mountain – absolutely still. In the yogic tradition, Shiva is not worshipped as a God, but considered as the Adi Guru, the first Guru from whom the knowledge originated. After many millennia in meditation, one day he became absolutely still. That day is Mahashivratri. All movement in him stopped and he became utterly still, so ascetics see Mahashivratri as the night of stillness.

Shivratri, is the darkest day of the month. Celebrating Shivratri on a monthly basis, and the particular day, Mahashivratri, almost seems like celebration of darkness. Any logical mind would resist darkness and naturally opt for light. But the word “Shiva” literally means “that which is not.” “That which is,” is existence and creation. “That which is not” is Shiva. “That which is not” means, if you open your eyes and look around, if your vision is for small things, you will see lots of creation. If your vision is really looking for big things, you will see the biggest presence in the existence is a vast emptiness. A few spots which we call galaxies are generally much noticed, but the vast emptiness that holds them does not come into everybody’s notice. This vastness, this unbounded emptiness, is what is referred to as Shiva. Today, modern science also proves that everything comes from nothing and goes back to nothing. It is in this context that Shiva, the vast emptiness or nothingness, is referred to as the great lord, or Mahadeva.

So when we say Shivratri, which is the darkest night of the month, it is an opportunity for one to dissolve their limitedness, to experience the unboundedness of the source of creation which is the seed in every human being. Mahashivratri is an opportunity and a possibility to bring yourself to that experience of the vast emptiness within every human being, which is the source of all creation.

On the one hand, Shiva is known as the destroyer. On the other, he is known as the most compassionate. He is also known to be the greatest of the givers. The yogic lore is rife with many stories about Shiva’s compassion. The ways of expression of his compassion have been incredible and astonishing at the same time. So Mahashivratri is a special night for receiving too.

It is our wish and blessing that you must not pass this night without knowing at least a moment of the vastness of this emptiness that we call as Shiva. Let this night not just be a night of wakefulness, let this night be a night of awakening for you.

Mano buddhya-hankara chittani naham
Na cha shrotra jihve, na cha ghrana netre
Na cha vyoma bhumirna tejo na vayuhu

I am not the mind, intellect, thought, ego, or some form of the supreme being; I neither have ears, nor tongue and I neither have nose (nostrils) nor eyes; I am not the sky, earth, light or the wind; I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.
I am consciousness and bliss. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
Na cha prana sangno na vai pancha vayuhu

Na vak pani padau na chopastha payoo
Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham .(2).

I am not the most essential air that everyone breathes. Nor a part of essential five gases related to bodily functions (which are Prana, Aparna, Vyana, Udana and Samana). I am not the seven-fold material (Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa, Medas, Asthi,Majja and Shukra) that help in body’s physical development, I am not part of five coverings that help to build up the personality (food, air, mind, knowledge or wisdom and pleasure). Nor am I the five organs of action (which are speech/mouth, hands, feet, reproductive and rectum), I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.
I am consciousness and bliss. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
Na me dvesha ragau na me lobha mohau
Mado naiva me naiva matsarya bhavah
Na dharmo na chartho na kamo na mokshah
Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham .(3).

I have no likes or dislikes; Not I have any greed or delusion; I have no pride or arrogant vanity; Nor am I jealous of anyone or in competition with anyone ; I do not need the four main necessities of life (which are Dharma (Law of Life), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Desires) and Moksha (Liberation); I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.
I am consciousness and bliss. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.

Na punyam na papam na saukhyam na dukham
Na mantro na tirtham na veda na yagnaha
Aham bhojanam naiva bhojyam na bhokta
Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham .(4).

I am not attached to any righteousness or sin; I have neither pleasure nor sorrow; I have no need for any Mantra; I have no need for pilgrimages ; I have no need for any sacred scriptures; nor do I perform any sacrifise or rituals; I am neither the meal nor the one who consumes or what is consumed;
I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.

Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham .(5).

I have no fear of death, nor do I have caste distinctions; I neither have a father nor mother because I was never born; I have neither kin/relatives nor friends; I have no gurus and nor am I a disciple; I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.
I am consciousness and bliss. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
Aham nirvikalpo nirakara rupo
Vibhur vyapya sarvatra sarvendriyanam
Sada me samatvam na muktir na bandhah
Chidananda rupah shivoham shivoham .(6).

I am free of thoughts and beyond imagination since I have no form; I am all pervading and exist everywhere; I am the king of all sense-organs; I am always impartial to everything and everyone,; I am free from everything and I have no attachment to anything; I am the fortunate, joyful, supreme being who is the very emblem of truth, knowledge and eternal bliss.
I am consciousness and bliss. I am Shiva, I am Shiva.

Mahanavami 2015
Gain blessings from Maha Shakti with a Mahavnami Blessings Token

Mahanavami is third and final day of Durga Puja. Durga Puja on Maha Navami begins with Mahasnan and Shodashopachar meditations.
On Maha Navami Goddess Durga is worshipped as Mahisasuramardini which means the Annihilator of the Buffalo Demon. It is believed that on Maha Navami day Durga killed the demon Mahishasura.
It is important to note that depending on starting time of Navami Tithi on previous day Maha Navami Puja and Upavas might be done on Ashtami Tithi. The precise rule is that if Ashtami and Navami merge before Sanyakal on Ashtami Tithi then Ashtami meditations and Navami meditations including Sandhiya meditations are done on the same day.
However, Durga Balidan is always done on Uday Vyapini Navami Tithi. The most appropriate time to perform Balidan on Navami is Aparahna Kaal.
Navami meditation is performed on Maha Navami and it is the significant ritual during Durga Navratri period. The best time to perform meditations is at the end of Navami Puja.

Kismatkarma wish you a very Happy Navratri

Navratri Meditations & Prayer Tokens
http://www.kismatkarma.com/navratri-meditations/

We wish you all a warm welcome for this joyous occasion of Navratri on behalf of everyone at Kismat Karma. This is the time we all stand as one and rejoice in the powerful prayers to our goddess Maa Durga who defeated many demons and rid the world of evil on so many occasions. We only pray that these nine days clear away any demons and forms of distress that may cloud you or anyone in the world at this time. We hope you join our prayers at this event and share the love of the universe with the dance and music dedicated to the Universal Mother Maa Durga.

http://www.kismatkarma.com/navratri-meditations/

There are nine days of Navratri dedicated to the universal mother goddess Druga each year. In these days the story of Maa Durga are told and retold each night in dedication to her divine powers.
The story goes as follows:

There were two demons who were taking over the world and all that is good, their names were Madhu and Ketav, both brothers who were so powerful they set out to defeat the gods. They sought a war with the god Vishnu which lasted for five thousand years. Seeing that this was a lengthy war and clearly not a war that was moving in favour of the gods the Gods set out to pray to a power even higher than their own. They prayed to mother Durga, the Universal Goddess. In the form of pride she set upon the demons and they boastfully vowed to die from Vishnu on the condition that they will not be able to see water, earth or sky. Listening to this Vishnu was able to kill the demons by enlarging his own size so they could not see anything but him. Thus he defeated or Maa Durga was able to defeat the undefeatable demons.
Then came the rein of two other vicious demons Shumbh and Nishumbh, who brought wrath upon the earth once more. They were again slaying humans and the Gods felt their power threatened. The God prayed again to the higher power of Maa Durga who took form of a beautiful young maiden. She sat upon a Lion as her steed and set for the mountain. Dressed in the ornaments and weapons bestowed upon her from each of the Gods she went to ward with these Demons who wished to possess her for their own lust and ego. With little effort she created her own army from within her and slayed the demons along with their armies.

After the rein of the demon brothers the rein of Rakht-bhij came. This demon king was blessed with a boon from Lord Shiva that with each drop of blood that falls upon the earth another demon will rise in his place. As you can imagine this was a messy war, Maa Durga realised that each time she slayed this demon thousands would reappear in its place all as him with the same strengths and same boon affecting them all. This is when the Divine mother took the form of Goddess Kali. In her fearsome avatar she made herself so big that her tongue covered the earth whist she continued to fight along with her own army. No blood fell upon the earth as mother Kali consumed it. Thus the demon was defeated.

Alas another demon came soon after. Mahisasura was a demon who was able to transform himself to be in any form he wanted. The great Mother Durga with her army defeated this beastly, demon. She is the saviour of not only the humans but also of the gods, or what we believe is good in the world.

She is the one who is able to defeat all the demons that are so powerful they could be considered more or equally powerful to the Gods. This is a time when we pray to the power of the universe who is able to hold and create the good and bad and defeat all that is good and bad in the Universe. However, mother Durga adheres to the universal energy of Love. Thus she will always eliminate that which is not in the side of love.

Maa Katyayani Meditations for Marriage Problems

Maa Katyayani Meditations for Marriage Problems

Kismatkarma explains Maa Katyayani Vrat (Gauri Vrat) For Early Marriage or Marriage Problems

Gauri Parvati Vrat is observed for five days beginning on the Ekadashi day in the month of Ashada

At Kismatkarma we understand marriage is becoming one of the major issues in today’s time. Both men and women are facing this problem, be it timely marriage or avoiding divorce in a marriage. For Getting the right match and also longing for making marriages work, people try various methods, with no benefit.

Kismatkarma are performing special meditations for the nine days of Gupt Navratri 2015. Would you like a token? http://www.kismatkarma.com/gupt-navratri-meditations/

At Kismatkarma we are holding special meditations as we understand that sometimes there are negative vibrations around us which stop us from receiving the benefits of our good deeds. We have had many cases, where out clients have mentioned that in the past they have followed many remedies, however, nothing has worked for them. We believe one of the many reasons this tends to happen if there is a lot of negative energy around the person. If you are suffering from negative energy and feel this is blocking your relationship, then we recommend Distant Meditations for you:

The best remedy for early marriage or the best remedy for marriage problems is Maa Katyayani Vrat or Gauri Vrat .This vrat has been mentioned in Bhagwad Mahapuran 10th canto (skandha) 22nd chapter The Bhagavata Purana describes the legend of Katyayani Vrata, where young marriageable daughters (gopis) of the cowherd men of Gokula in Braja, worshipped Goddess Katyayani (Goddess Durga) and took a vrata or vow, during the entire month of Margashirsha, the first month of the winter season, to get Lord Krishna as their husband. During the month, they ate only unspiced khichri, and after bathing in the Yamuna at sunrise, made an earthen deity of the Goddess on the riverbank, and worshipped the idol of Goddess Durga by whose grace they were blessed with Lord Krishna as their husband after completion of this vrat. The fasting, called Katyayani vrata or Gauri Vrat is made for a whole month in the month of Marghashirsha.

The complete Katyayani vrat katha (Gauri Vrat Katha ) , Katyayani vrat vidhi (Gauri Vrat vidhi )  has been Mentioned in Brahma vaivartha puran in Krishna Janma Khanda Chapter 27 .Lord Narayan himself narrates the story behind this to Lord Narada and mentions that this vrat is called Gauri vrat.So Gauri  vrat and Katyayani vrat are one and the same and is observed in order to please Goddess Katyayani i.e. Goddess Durga.

Kismatkarma are performing special meditations for the nine days of Gupt Navratri 2015. Would you like a token? http://www.kismatkarma.com/gupt-navratri-meditations/

This vrat was also observed by Devi Sita (who was the embodied form of Devi Lakshmi)  who was blessed by Devi Durga and was able to marry Prabhu Shri Ram.(Who is the  embodied form of Lord Narayan).

In Satyug Devi Sita, Radha and Gopikas had worshiped Devi Durga for the entire month of Marghashirsha and then they were blessed with Lord Krishna as their husband. So now in Kaliyug where adharma prevails, in order to please Devi, I will suggest that this Katyayani Devi Pooja should be done not only in the month of marghshirsha, but till the time you find your appropriate partner. Also in today’s busy life style it is very difficult to implement the intricate methodologies of Vrat Anushthan. Hence I am describing as to how you can be benefited by just following simple worship methodologies. It is also worth mentioning that not only does this vrat benefit females who want to get married or who want to come out of marriage related problems, but it also benefits men. This remedy  is also a very powerful tool to fulfil all your desires pertaining to health, wealth and happiness suggested by Lord Narayan himself.

At Kismatkarma we are holding special meditations as we understand that sometimes there are negative vibrations around us which stop us from receiving the benefits of our good deeds. We have had many cases, where out clients have mentioned that in the past they have followed many remedies, however, nothing has worked for them. You can achieve maximum benefits if this meditation is done in the month of Marghashirsha because there is a great importance of Lord Krishna in this month. The Lord himself says that he is the Margashirsha month out of all the months. The below shlokam tells about the significance and spiritual importance of margasheersha maas in Bhagwad Geeta Chapter-10,verse-35

Bruhatsama thatha samnam
Gayatri Chandasamaham
Masanam Margashoham
Ruthunam Kusumakarna

It means - Lord Krishna says "I, myself, stay in Bruhathsama in the Samaveda, Gayatri in Chandassu or literature, Margashirsha or Margashira in months and Vasant rithu in rithus or seasons".

Margashirsha maas or Margashira masam is the ninth month as per traditional Hindu calendar. It is believed as one of the auspicious months for Hindus. In Puranas, Margashirsha maas is mentioned as 'Maasonam Margashirshoham' which means there is no auspicious month as Margashiram.

However, you can start whenever you have the desire to surrender to the bhakti of Goddess Durga. In order to derive the benefits of this remedy follow the below mentioned steps.

Maa Katyayani Vrat (Gauri Vrat) vidhi or procedure, Maa Katyayani vrat or Gauri Vrat has four main parts

Step 1 –Dhyan :- Establish the Idol of Goddess Durga and offer your devotion.Visualise the divine form of Goddess Durga and narrate your wishes. It is important to ask Devi to take you under Her Divine protection and to always be pleased with you.

Step 2 -Daily Chanting  : - After this, recite the following mantra 10 Malas or rounds. (Each Mala has 108 beeds. So you would be reciting this for almost more than 1000 times). However if you are unable to do 10 malas, please recite it as per your convenience.

Mantra: Om Shri Durgayai Sarvavighna vinashinyai namah.

Step 3 – Daily Durga Stuti – This stuti was done by Lord Brahma when he was being troubled by Madhu and Kaitabha. Radha along with all the Vraj Gopikas also recited this Stuti for pleasing Goddess Durga. This Stuti is called Jai Durga Stotra.
At Kismatkarma we are holding special meditations as we understand that sometimes there are negative vibrations around us which stop us from receiving the benefits of our good deeds. We have had many cases, where out clients have mentioned that in the past they have followed many remedies, however, nothing has worked for them. How To Observe Vat Gouri Vrata

According to legends, Goddess Parvati had carried out intense austerities (tapas) in order to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Since then, unmarried females have been observing this fast on the pretext of obtaining an ideal and devoted husband, just like Lord Shiva. Gauri Parvati Vrat is observed for five days beginning on the Ekadashi day in the month of Ashada in the waxing phase of the moon. The fast ends on the day of Purnima. A partial fast is observed wherein the girls perform pujas for Goddess Parvati. A unique tradition is followed during this course of five days. All females observing Gauri Vrata grow corn shoots in a small pot. The tender corn shoots emerging along with Lord Surya (sun) are worshipped during the day, not to forget Goddess Parvati. While considering the food to be consumed during the five-day fast, salt is strictly prohibited. Only wheat flour, ghee and milk are used for preparing food. However, different fruits can be consumed as well. On Purnima day to end the vrat, girls perform a ‘cow puja’ and also bid farewell to Goddess Parvati.
