This is the time we all stand as one and rejoice in the powerful prayers to our goddess Maa Durga who defeated many demons and rid the world of evil on so many occasions. We only pray that these nine days clear away any demons and forms of distress that may cloud you or anyone in the world at this time. We hope you join our prayers at this event and share the love of the universe with the dance and music dedicated to the Universal Mother Maa Durga.

How are Navratri colours decided and why do they change every year? 

The first colour of the Navratri is decided based on the week day when the festival begins or when Ghatsthapna or Pratipada falls. The remaining eight days then follow a fixed cycle of colors. Each day is dedicated to one particular form of Goddess Durga. Here’s a look at nine different colours to be worn on each day of Navratri 2017 festival according to Kismatkarma

The festival of Sharad Navratri is about the victory of good over evil. Goddess Durga killed the mighty demon king, Mahishasura when all Gods failed to save the universe from his tyranny. As per Rambha Kalpa, Goddess Durga in the form of 18 handed Ugrachandi killed Mahishasura. However, as per Neelalohita Kalpa, 16 handed Bhadrakali killed Mahishasura, and as per Shwetavaraha Kalpa, ten-handed Katyayani killed Mahishasura. The ferocious form of Maa Durga is worshipped by devotees to seek blessings for a happy and prosperous life. The rituals during Navratri festival is not just limited to dressing according to sacred colours but also sees nine-day long religious fastings, recitation of Durga Saptashati and Kanya Puja among others. Shradh 2017 dates are: 6th - 19th September. During Pitru Paksha, the ritual of Tarpan is performed for the departed souls to rest in peace. This Shradh in 2017, let’s ask for the blessings and removal of Pitru Dosh. Shraddh is one of the most significant time to remember our ancestors and pray for the departed souls to rest in peace. As per the Hindu Calendar , during the time of Pitru Paksha, if you offer prayers and perform certain ritualsnor meditations for your ancestors, you will be blessed by them and their souls will rest in peace. Every year, Tarpan takes place during the time of Shraddh dates. The same rituals will be performed when Shraddha in 2017 commences. We will pray for the departed souls to rest in peace during the Shradh in 2017 . Before we go ahead and pray for the peace of our ancestors and the dead, let’s find out the significance of Shraddha. As per the holy scripture ‘Srimad Bhagavad Gita’, the body is destructible but the soul remains immortal. The soul never takes birth neither it dies. The soul is immortal and ever existent. Any auspicious event like marriage, or birth ceremony is completely prohibited during the time of Shraadh. Try to avoid having a haircut during the days of Shradh. Restrain from eating non vegetarian food, alcohol and tobacco during the time of Shraadh. Try to avoid eating at others’ house during the time of Shraadh. It is considered that if you eat (salt debt) at someone's home their Pitru is transferred to the host. This can only be removed by balancing the act or through a remedial Meditation. Hence, try to avoid all the above mentioned things on Shradh in 2017.

Nag Panchami

Nag Panchami is an important festival celebrated in the month of Shravan on the 5th day from Amavasya. It is also popularly known as Nagar Panchami. In 2017, Nag Panchami occurs on 27th July 2017.

Just like its name suggests, snakes are worshipped on Nag Panchami and due to the nature of the festival, this day is also celebrated as Manasa Devi Ashtanga Puja. This is because Manasa Devi is a snake goddess who controls all snakes on earth. She is also worshipped for fertility and prosperity. Therefore, on this day, Manasa Devi and the Ashta Nag are worshipped. Lord Shiva is the main deity revered in the month of Shravan and snakes are important to Lord Shiva.

On Nag Panchami, the Sheshnag aka the God of snakes and other Nagas are worshipped. It is also celebrated as the day when Lord Krishna destroyed Kaliya the Snake. It is said that all devotees who worship snakes on this day gain protection from snake bites. 

In astrology and spirituality, it is believed that this day is auspicious to perform the Rahu-Ketu Shanti rituals and even the Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran meditations.
