Nag Panchami

Nag Panchami is an important festival celebrated in the month of Shravan on the 5th day from Amavasya. It is also popularly known as Nagar Panchami. In 2018, Nag Panchami occurs on 15th Aug 2018.

Just like its name suggests, snakes are worshipped on Nag Panchami and due to the nature of the festival, this day is also celebrated as Manasa Devi Ashtanga Puja. This is because Manasa Devi is a snake goddess who controls all snakes on earth. She is also worshipped for fertility and prosperity. Therefore, on this day, Manasa Devi and the Ashta Nag are worshipped. Lord Shiva is the main deity revered in the month of Shravan and snakes are important to Lord Shiva.
