Scientific Evidence to Support the Phenomena of Near Death Experiences | |||
Scientific Evidence to Support the Phenomena of NDEs
Near Death Experiences (NDEs) are widely recognised phenomena which have been reported by thousands and thousands of people across the world.
However, these experiences, such as bright lights, detachment from the body and flashbacks, have traditionally been met with scepticism from the scientific community.
However, Dr Parnia and his team of researchers at the University of Southampton, carried out a four-year international study into near-death and out-of body experiences, which has shown that there does appear to be some awareness after patients are declared clinically dead (the time when the heart stops beating). Using over 2000 cardiac arrest patients at 15 hospitals in the UK, US and Austria, Parnia set out to examine claims of awareness and mental experiences associated with cardiac arrest using objective markers. They sought to discover if claims reported corresponded to actual events or whether it could be instead explained by hallucinations or illusions.
Of the 2,060 patients enrolled in the study, 39 percent of the 330 survivors described an ‘awareness’ during the time they were clinically dead before their hearts were started again.
One in five reported the feeling of unusual peacefulness, whilst nearly a third
experienced the speeding up or slowing down of time. Other experiences recorded included seeing a bright light, feeling separated from their bodies and heightened senses. Parnia believes that many more people have these experiences but are unable to to recall specific details as a result of sedative drugs used during resuscitation or brain injury.
Whilst some people have previously put these sensations down to hallucinations and illusions, Pania’s study provided scientific evidence that seems to prove that
conscious awareness can continue for up to 3 minutes after cardiac arrest. One of his subjects, a 57 year old man from the UK, managed to describe all the activity in the room around him even though he was unconscious and ‘dead’ for three minutes. As Dr Parnia explained, “We know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating, but in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to three minutes… even though the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has stopped. The man described everything that had happened in the room, but importantly, he heard two bleeps from a machine that makes a noise at three minute intervals. So we could time how long the experienced lasted for… everything that he said had happened to him had actually happened.”
Whilst we are still very much in dark about what happens after death and how long we can experience consciousness after our hearts have stopped beating, this study does show that science and medicine should not be so quick to dismiss the phenomena and it has opened the door for more extensive research.

Can we control our thoughts and empty our minds? |
Can we control our thoughts and empty our minds?
Our main problem isn’t thinking, but rather that we don’t know how to STOP thinking.
We allow our minds to host a constant stream of thoughts, believing that we can’t make it stop. Our minds are in charge, a constant buzzing where we have no control over what we receive and from where. If we do anything with these thoughts, it only serves to multiply these thoughts. If we try not to think about something, the more we think about it – it becomes a part of our consciousness.
Our thoughts can be our best friends or our worst enemies. Our ability to reflect on the past often leads to regrets, whilst our ability to imagine the future often leads to fear. When we are living constantly in our minds, it can be torturous for us. There is no release. Our minds are wonderful things if we can learn how to open and close them when we want to.
The idea of emptying your mind of thought can be frightening but only because we mistakenly believe that we ARE our thoughts.
The reason that our thought processes have become continuously ‘on’ is that we have identified ourselves with things that we are not – our bodies, things and people around us, ideas and beliefs. We need to unidentify with everything in our lives and realise that thought is a conscious process. We can choose to think when we want to think, otherwise we can empty our minds.
It is time to learn to manage the mind, to release what’s taking precious space in your mind and heart that’s not serving you. Until then, how we experience life will be a reflection of our thoughts. If we think negatively, we are likely to see the world around us as a frightening, unfriendly place. We project our negative emotions onto the world. They say that if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
An empty mind is one that lives in the present moment, not dwelling on the same thoughts, free from judgement. It is peaceful and is receptive to new ideas and input from higher sources.
So how can we learn to break the cycle of constant thinking and worrying and empty our minds?
Meditation is the key to calming an overactive mind. All it takes is stillness and willingness.
For a beginner, the best way is find a quiet place, close your eyes and focus on your breathing for 10 to 20 minutes. Set a timer so you don’t keep checking your watch. Some people prefer to repeat mantras to themselves, be sure to pick one that resonates with you. You are likely to lose focus and your mind will wander but don’t give up, accept this as part of the process. You will start to feel calmer and open to new thoughts, bringing you clarity, peace and perspective. The important things is to keep doing it daily.
Another method used to clear your mind when you are overloaded with thoughts is free writing. Using a computer or pen or paper, write down everything that you are feeling at that moment. Let it all out – no one else will see it or judge you for it – there is no need for explanations or analysis. Keep going until you feel there is nothing more to say and then shred your paper or delete your typing. Remember to smile.
Physical activity, whatever exercise you choose, is another great way to release negativity and stuck energy and energise your mind, body and soul. Be sure to visualise all your unwanted thoughts leaving as you exhale.
When you learn to empty your mind, you let go of the thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back. You learn to be the observer of your mind, cultivating the space between thoughts, the place of pure consciousness. Empty your mind and you can open yourself up to higher knowledge and wisdom.
We can help you to access your Higher Self by connecting with the Universe with our blessings and prayer tokens. Dr Arti will conduct special meditations asking the Universe to send divine blessings your way. https://www.kismatkarma.com/
